The project targets research and production of medical alpha-emitting isotopes such as actinium-225 and radium-223; the facility has basic production capability, while full construction is expected to advance key technologies for larger-scale production. It carries a 400-ton crane, underwater robots, and trenching equipment for seabed surveys, cable installation, and transport support. The report quoted the project manager as saying that the vessel’s full-chain intelligent system could reduce fuel consumption by about 15 percent compared with a traditional approach, with a range of 15,000 nautical miles. Machines Are Entering Work, Not Replacing All of Life

The machines in these reports are doing specific things: handling wire harnesses on a production line, installing and surveying equipment in deep water, sorting items in pharmacies, delivering coffee, and repeating calibration work in a laboratory. Specificity makes the claims more credible than a promise to “change life completely,” because a specific task can be observed, measured, and caught when it fails.

But when work is divided into actions that can be given to a machine, the human role does not automatically disappear. It may move into training, supervision, exception handling, and final decisions. It may also become a form of responsibility that is harder to see. The more a machine resembles a dependable colleague, the clearer it must be when it may act alone, when it must stop, and when a decision must return to a person.

The Closer Technology Gets to Life, the Less It Can Omit Choice

I kept thinking about several phrases from the Xi’an dialogue: human autonomy, social trust, and social cohesion. They are less convenient to put into a table than shipment numbers, efficiency, or range, but they determine whether technology is an actual improvement once it enters life. A robot may deliver coffee to a table, but whether it respects personal space, explains its judgment, and lets a person refuse or correct it is part of the service too.

From medical isotopes to deep-water engineering vessels, technology also reminds us that intelligence does not mean abandoning oversight. Medicine needs safety and traceability. Deep-water work needs redundancy and emergency plans. Public services need transparency and responsibility. The stronger a machine’s autonomy, the clearer the human system’s route of retreat should be.

My Judgment

I like the phrase “robot office workers,” but I am also cautious about it. I like it because it brings technology from the stage back to a task, from spectacle back to patience. I am cautious because a job implies performance, rules, collaboration, and responsibility, not one beautiful movement in front of an audience. A robot that truly enters a workplace must face long operation, occasional failure, human interference, and imperfect surroundings.

That is why I see embodied intelligence as a rearrangement of social relationships, not only as a larger model or a more dexterous mechanical hand. Who designs the rules, who bears the risk, who owns the data, who can stop the system, and who receives an explanation after an accident will not disappear because machines become smarter. Technology may occupy the center of the system, but people should remain at the center of its value.

What Still Cannot Be Known

Initial beam transmission and basic production capability at IP-SAFE do not yet prove a stable, large-scale, clinically validated supply of medical isotopes. The vessel’s fuel savings, unattended operation, and intelligent performance were described by the project side; long-term independent operating data is still limited.

Robot performance at a conference, during a trial period, or in selected logistics centers and pharmacies cannot be directly generalized to every home, factory, or public-service setting. The UN dialogue presents an exchange of ideas, not a global governance rule already in force. I have not turned company demonstrations, industry reports, or conference proposals into final conclusions.
